Texas hires Jim Schlossnagle as head baseball coach
Schlossnagle, who has led teams to 19 NCAA Tournament appearances and is considered one of the nation's top coaches
Will take over for David Pierce, who resigned in May
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas has hired Texas AM baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle as its head baseball coach, the school announced Tuesday night. Schlossnagle, 51, has been the head coach at Texas AM for the past three seasons, leading the Aggies to the College World Series in 2021 and 2022. He has also led the TCU Horned Frogs to the College World Series twice, in 2010 and 2012. Schlossnagle has a career record of 685-358-4 in 22 seasons as a head coach. He is a three-time Big 12 Coach of the Year and was named the National Coach of the Year in 2021 by the National College Baseball Writers Association. Schlossnagle takes over for David Pierce, who resigned in May after five seasons at Texas. The Longhorns went 32-22 this season and missed the NCAA Tournament. Schlossnagle is considered one of the top coaches in the country, and his hiring is a major coup for Texas. He is expected to bring a winning culture to Austin and help the Longhorns return to the College World Series.
