Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant's father, Joe 'Jellybean' Bryant, dies at 69
Former NBA player and Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant's father, Joe 'Jellybean' Bryant, has died at the age of 69.
Bryant, who played eight seasons in the NBA, died on Wednesday, according to his former team, the Philadelphia 76ers. No cause of death has been released.
Bryant was a standout player at La Salle University in Philadelphia, where he was a two-time All-American. He was drafted by the 76ers in the first round of the 1975 NBA Draft and played for the team for five seasons. He also played for the San Diego Clippers and Houston Rockets before retiring in 1983.
After his playing career, Bryant became a coach and scout. He was an assistant coach for the 76ers from 1984 to 1986 and was a scout for the Lakers from 2000 to 2004.
Bryant is survived by his wife, Pam, and their three children, Kobe, Sharia, and Shaya.
